Being Attentive to Your Cats and Their Weight

Although you can probably never give too much affection, cat treats are another thing. Cats can develop weight
problems just like people do. According to a study reported by the
Association for Pet Obesity Prevention, an estimated 57% of cats are
overweight or obese.

Many experts recommend cat treats make up no more than 10% of the total calories
a cat eats. The remaining 90% of your cat's calories should come from a
high-quality, nutritionally complete cat food.

Happy Cats and Kittens

You're a cat person and you share your home with a happy healthy cats or kitten. You know the great laughter, companionship, and
love your feline companion can bring to your life. This is our greatest
purpose in life! For the incredible pleasure and companionship our healthy
cats bring us, we have certain obligations and responsibilities.

Cats have different nutritional requirements and needs based on their age,
activity level, environment, genetics, breed and other factors. Premium cat food
provides a solid foundation but cannot supply all the nutrients necessary.
Why should you be concerned about providing your cat a chewable cat supplement?:
A deficiency of just one or more nutrients can leave your cat vulnerable to
disease.
Nutrients that specifically support your cat's natural defenses are vital to
good health.

Advanced Daily Supplements

Most of us take advanced daily supplements and eat right to get all the nutrients necessary to avoid disease and ensure good health. The same is true for the four-legged member of your family … your precious pup.

Your dog needs a high quality supplement daily because:

· All dogs have different nutritional requirements. Age, activity level, environment, genetics, breed and other factors determine your dog’s special needs. Although a good premium dog food will provide a solid foundation, food alone cannot supply all the nutrients necessary to fulfill those unique requirements. For example, huskies often need more zinc than other breeds.
· A deficiency of just one or more nutrients can leave your dog vulnerable to disease.

What will you be remembered for?

I've heard it said that crap food makes a dog crap more. Well so does the best dog food available!

Dogs I've had and been around will poop, usually, for every time they are fed. If you feed once a day expect at least one poop a day; if you feed twice a day expect at least two poops a day; and so on and so forth. You just can't escape poop.

The quality of food you feed does affect the dogs poop. Foods that have more filler will generate more poop. That's what that first sentence, that I've heard many times, is getting at. Filler will also make the poop smell and different types of filler will make different types of smell.

Good nutrient rich food is absorbed more readily and more easily by the dogs body. So not only is it creating less poop, and less smelly poop, it is also making your dog live a longer and healthier life. A healthier life abundant with love and caring.

Will a dog remember you more for walking them and cleaning the poop out of their yard; or will you be better remembered by the dog for feeding them a healthy, high quality food? I believe it's the feeding of a healthy, high quality food they will remember most.

Holistic Pet Care - Hyperthyroidism in Cats

Holistic cat products help but what about the products within your home that may be detrimental to you and your cat's health?

Hyperthyroidism in Cats has been increasing since the 70's and the 80's was an extremely bad decade. A big change, for us all, in the 80's was the introduction of PBDE's as a flame retardant in many products. Interestingly enough a study performed in 2007 found that cats have high levels of PBDEs. According to a study in 2004 people in the US have the highest levels of PBDEs in the world.

Watch the video here - http://blog.lifesabundance.com/post/2011/01/20/Feline-Hyperthyroidism.aspx?realname=20021272 - to learn about the signs of hyperthyroidism in cats as well as treatments available. If you see the signs in your cat make an appointment with your vet immediately.

Watch Your and Your Pets Waistline?

34 million dogs and 54 million cats are classified as overweight?

Extra fat can make it more difficult for a surgeon to operate and increase the chances of complications with anesthesia?

Don't lose the battle of the bulge!

Six things to consider for both you and your pets health:

1. There are two main causes of obesity in pets: too many calories and too little exercise.

2. Too many Americans lead sedentary lifestyles. Their pets are the same way.

3. Every time you eat, you burn calories and the same is true for our companion animals. Measure the food amount for the whole day and divide it into several smaller meals.

4. Food journals are a very effective weight-management tool for both people and pets.

5. A last resort - The FDA recently approved Slentrol, a weight-loss medication approved for canine use. The exact mechanism of this drug remains unknown, but researchers believe that it helps suppress the appetite and inhibit the absorption of fat.

6. Dietary supplements
